Also known as the Humpback Turretfish, Camel Cowfish, Pyramid Cowfish, or Hovercraft Cowfish (Tetrasomus gibbosus), this species is unique, even for a cowfish! It has many names due to its pyramid shape body. It has two tiny spines above each eye, and a series of serrated, backward pointing ridges on its lower flanks.
This mid-sized species reaches 12 inches in the wild, but rarely achieves such a size in captivity. They are easily housed in an aquarium of 55 gallons. These fish reside in sea grass beds of coastal reefs.
They are found in a small range including the Red Sea, Indonesia, Philippines, and the Great Barrier Reef. A few specimens have been found near the Mediterranean as well. Because of its fairly limited range, this species doesn't appear in the aquarium trade as often as the Longhorn Cowfish. Its care is nearly identical to the Longhorn species.
