ETSS in my opinion, an outstanding skimmer. Durable and efficient, the drawbacks are cleaning. Too many screws to remove and needs a powerful pump. Do not even thinking about using a Rio to pump it. It will not work. BTW, Rio is really bad especially the large ones, they have the potential of causing the tank meltdown. There are many cases reported in the US.
An external pump that creates a lot of pressure would suffice. I am using a submersible pump due to the way my sump is set up. A Mag 24 that pumps 2400 gallon/hour. Even using this I still need to raise the water level in the sump to submerse the reaction box of the skimmer for it to work efficiently.
